Girls basketball roundup: Central Crossing stops Davidson in double OT
Jalynn Graham’s driving layup with eight seconds remaining in the second overtime gave Central
Crossing a 49-47 victory over host Hilliard Davidson last night in an Ohio Capital Conference
Central Division game.
Olivia Davis scored 20 of her 24 points after halftime for Central Crossing (14-2, 9-2). Katie
Dymek twice forced an extra period for Davidson (9-8, 6-5). Her three-pointer with 15 seconds left
in regulation led to overtime, and her steal and ensuing three-point play in the closing seconds of
the first overtime period tied it at 42.
Northland 75,
Centennial 41
Alexis Peterson had 23 points and seven assists for Northland (16-1, 12-0), which increased its
City League North Division lead to two games with two to play with a home win over Centennial
(13-4, 10-2).
Olentangy Orange 46,
New Albany 39
Keristynn Myers scored 14 points to lead host Olentangy Orange (16-1, 11-0) to an OCC Capital
win over New Albany (12-5, 9-2).
Myers had eight points in the third quarter as the Pioneers outscored the Eagles 14-6.
South 58, Briggs 40
A 7-0 run in the fourth quarter helped South (7-9, 6-6) pull away from visiting Briggs (5-12,
4-8) in the City League South.
Keyvona Waddell had 28 points for the Bulldogs and added 13 rebounds and five assists.
East 37, Whetstone 33
Laquisha Hinton had 14 points, Janekqua Thornton added 12 and East (6-10, 4-8) defeated host
Whetstone (5-12, 3-9) in the City League North.
Big Walnut 46,
Hilliard Bradley 38
Skylar Fleak had seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, and Big Walnut (9-7, 6-5) held on
against visiting Hilliard Bradley (9-6, 7-4) in the OCC Capital.
Dublin Jerome 42,
Westerville South 35
Visiting Dublin Jerome (8-7, 7-4) forced 18 turnovers and held on against Westerville South
(9-8, 7-4) in the OCC Cardinal.
The Celtics had a 20-12 rebounding edge and made 11 of 14 free throws in the second half.
Westerville North 51,
Dublin Scioto 41
Symone Simmons scored 18 points and Devin Jackson 11, and Westerville North (9-8, 6-5) dealt
host Dublin Scioto’s OCC Cardinal title hopes a blow.
The Irish (10-6, 8-3) turned the ball over 25 times and never threatened after falling behind
18-11 after one quarter.
Heath 29, Whitehall 28
Amber Brown made a free throw with six seconds remaining to lift Heath (5-11, 4-7) past visiting
Whitehall (11-5, 7-4) in a Mid-State League Ohio Division game.
After Brown made the second of two free throws, Whitehall’s Natalie Orr drove baseline and
missed a shot as time expired.
Canal Winchester 63,
Circleville 59, OT
A pair of three-point plays early in overtime propelled Canal Winchester (4-12, 2-8) to victory
over visiting Circleville (4-13, 2-9) in the MSL Buckeye.
After a basket from Circleville’s Merrie McGinnis with two seconds left forced overtime, the
Indians seized control on quick baskets from Raven Hamilton and Carrie Strawser.
Liberty Union 49,
Berne Union 38
Taylor Dickson scored 24 points to lead MSL Cardinal leader Liberty Union (15-2, 11-0) past host
Berne Union (8-8, 5-6).
Licking Heights 40,
West Jefferson 38
Licking Heights (6-11, 6-5) turned a close game into a six-point lead in the final minutes and
held on to beat host West Jefferson (10-5, 7-4) in the MSL Cardinal.
A three-pointer from West Jefferson’s Kelsey Kirkpatrick closed the deficit to three points with
two minutes to play, but that was as close as the Hornets would come.
Kirkpatrick finished with 19 points.
Fisher Catholic 48,
Harvest Prep 45
Kate Evangelista scored 18 points, Mara McGee 17 and Fisher Catholic (9-8, 5-6) held on to beat
visiting Harvest Prep (9-6, 8-3) in the MSL Cardinal.
